Rack PDUs vary enormously in features, capability and complexity, even though they’re all designed to do the same thing — deliver power to your equipment. Choosing the right Rack PDU can appear complicated but we hope this short guide will make it simpler.
The four core types of Rack PDUs
1.Basic Rack PDU:Reliable power distribution via a single input with multiple output receptacles distributes power from low-amperage, single-phase circuits to higher-power, three-phase solutions.
2.Metered Rack PDU: Featuring real-time remote monitoring of connected loads. User-defined alarms warn of potential circuit overloads before critical IT failures occur.
3.Switched Rack PDU: Advanced load monitoring combined with remote on/off switching control of individual outlets for power cycling, delayed power sequencing, and outlet use management.
4.Metered by Outlet Rack PDU:Real-time remote monitoring of each individual outlet to enable advanced monitoring and management.
Choosing the specific Rack PDU you require:Once you’ve chosen the range of Rack PDU most applicable, secondary choices help you decide the specific combinations of options you need for the equipment and location you are seeking to deliver power to. These include:
Software and integration:All of our intelligent Rack PDUs provide remote power utilization data and optional outlet control enabling data center managers to gather data and remotely manage and control connected devices. Collected data can be integrated into the StruxureWare™ for Data Centers suite, and can also be accessed through web browser, Telnet (CLI) or SNMP.
