Consumer behaviour has evolved with the proliferation of the internet, easier access to it and the affordability of data and ‘smart’, internet enabled devices. For instance, TV viewing has transformed with catch up, on-demand and online access, with users deciding when, how and on what they consume TV.
Consumer purchases are also increasingly made online and via smart phones and when researching a product or service, social media networks are fast becoming the go to place for word of mouth recommendations or peer to peer experiences to help inform the decision making. The need to ensure your business has an online presence, no matter how limited is more critical now than ever.
In UKOM's quarterly report of digital audience trends, June 2016 saw nearly 50 million users in the UK access the internet, with 35.2m of those via a smart phone or tablet. The same quarter also saw mobile devices overtaking desktop users for share of digital minutes, with 46% of adults choosing to use a smart phone instead.
Of the most visited properties, the top 4 - Google, Microsoft, Facebook and the BBC sites, have a combined online reach of over 75%, with Google at no.1 and over 93% of internet users visiting one it’s properties.
