Schneider Electric announces Platinum Sponsorship of SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year Competition

07/11/2017- Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, has announced that it is supporting the 2018 SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year Competition as the Platinum Sponsor.

Launched in 2010 by SNG Publishing, the competition gives students the opportunity to be recognised for their hard work and skills. The competition brings together lecturers, employers, industry leaders and manufacturers to support the next generation of electricians and encourage them in their career development.
There will be seven regional heats held across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to assess students on both practical and technical merits, with the first taking place in January at Newcastle College, Burnley College, Petroc College and Gower College, and the remainder in February at Stephenson College, West Herts College and Belfast Metropolitan College. The closing date for entries for the 2018 competition is 1st December 2017. One level two or three student per college can be entered to take part. Entrants must be 24 or under at the time of application, and they must have successfully completed last year’s test paper.
The winner of each heat, and the apprentice with the highest overall regional score in the competition, will go forward to the grand finale to compete for the title. The final will be held at the 3M Customer Innovation Centre in Bracknell on 11th-12th April. Last year’s winner was 18-year-old Thomas Seward from Coleg Gwent in Wales.
This is the second year Schneider Electric has been the Platinum Sponsor of this competition. It will again be contributing products for the students’ assessed practical challenges, such as the Easy9+ consumer unit, Lisse wiring devices, conduits and cable clips. Apprentices can find out more information about Schneider Electric’s products via its mySchneider Electrician portal: free and available to all electricians, the portal provides easy 24/7 access to the latest news, product information, training opportunities, support tools and much more.
Jocelyn Golding, Electrician Channel Programme Manager at Schneider Electric, said, “We are delighted to have the opportunity once again to recognise and reward the talent among young electricians, and support students on their journey through the competition and beyond.”
The winner of the competition receives a prize worth £1,500 for both them and their college. The runner up and their college receives £500, and there are smaller prizes available during each of the regional heats.
You can stay up-to-date with the competition via mySchneider Electrician portal, a free dedicated hub for electricians with news and updates, support tools, training and much more. Register or log in at www.schneider-electric.co.uk/electricianpartner.
